Gas pressure regulators control the delivery pressure of natural gas (NG) or liquefied petroleum (LP/propane) to furnaces, boilers, rooftop units, and other gas-fired appliances, stepping down line pressure to a stable appliance inlet pressure measured in inches water column (WC). Water pressure regulating valves (PRVs) reduce and maintain steady water pressure in potable water, hydronic, and irrigation systems, protecting downstream piping and equipment from supply pressure fluctuations. Current inventory includes LP/NG gas pressure regulators from Maxitrol, water PRV/filter combinations from Honeywell, and static pressure regulators and pressure control switches from Honeywell, Antunes Controls, Flow Design, and Sporlan. Confirming which type is needed before ordering is essential. Specs, connection sizes, and applications are distinct between gas and water units.

At minimum, pull these specs before ordering: gas type (natural gas or LP/propane), inlet pressure (PSI or WC), required outlet pressure range (typically 3" to 11" WC for appliance service), maximum capacity in BTU/hr or CFH, and pipe connection size (NPT). Line pressure regulators, such as Maxitrol's LP/NG flow-thru models, are designed for 2 PSI inlet systems stepping down to 7" to 11" WC; appliance regulators handle higher inlet pressures and deliver tighter outlet ranges, and the two are not interchangeable. For indoor installations, confirm whether the selected model requires an external vent to outdoors or a listed vent-limiting device per NFPA 54/ANSI Z223.1. Pipe sizes in current inventory run from 1/2" to 2-1/2" NPT. Match the regulator connection to the existing line to avoid additional fittings.

Natural gas and propane operate at different pressure ranges and have different chemical properties, so always verify gas-type compatibility on the product listing before purchasing. The Maxitrol gas regulator models in this collection are rated for both natural gas and LP at specified inlet pressure limits. The 2-1/2" NPT flow-thru model delivers 3" to 6" WC outlet and handles both fuel types within its capacity range. Converting a gas appliance between NG and LP is not a simple regulator swap; it requires orifice changes and regulator adjustment and must be performed by a licensed technician per code. The Maxitrol 1/2" model includes a leak-limit feature that shuts off flow if a preset threshold is exceeded, a code requirement for certain LP gas regulator HVAC installations.

The Honeywell pressure regulator (Dialset FK06 series) is a water pressure regulating valve and rinsable filter combination designed for potable water, hydronic heating, and irrigation applications. It is a water PRV, not a gas regulator. It maintains steady outlet pressure (adjustable from 25 to 90 PSI) across varying inlet supply pressures, protecting downstream plumbing fixtures, boiler makeup water lines, and irrigation zones from over-pressurization. The built-in downstream pressure adjustment dial eliminates the need for a separate gauge during setup, and the 50 to 100 micron rinsable filter removes sediment before it reaches equipment. Available in 1" and 1-1/4" FPT configurations in current inventory; both include the low-lead-compliant unitized cartridge that can be replaced without removing the valve body from the line.

NFPA 54 (National Fuel Gas Code) and ANSI Z223.1 require gas pressure regulators installed indoors to either vent to the outdoors or use a listed vent-limiting device. A standard vented regulator installed indoors without a vent run is a code violation. Some Maxitrol models include an integrated vent limiter (indicated by a 'V' suffix or included as a separate add-on) that satisfies the indoor no-vent requirement; confirm the specific model's certifications before ordering. Overpressure protection devices (OPDs) are required by some codes for indoor regulators on 5 PSI systems; on standard 2 PSI systems, check local AHJ requirements. Pull the manufacturer's installation instructions for the specific model number and confirm compliance before install.
